I love the fun treats that can be found during the holidays and am always inspired to use them to make something special.
I started my Woodsycake by baking three chocolate cake layers. I frosted each layer, as well as the outside.
The fun part is the candy that makes it woodsy:
Duplo Wafers and Meiji Chocorooms...
Sugar cones and sprinkles.
I lightly frosted the cones by holding them with my fingers inside the cone and spreading the frosting on the cone with my other hand.
Then I sprinkled.
For a smaller tree, I broke off the bottom of a cone to make it smaller. Then, I frosted and sprinkled as I had done on the larger cone.
And then I placed the logs and trees all about the top of the cake
and scattered a few chocorooms around the base.
And here comes the fun part: Cake Sparkles Edible Glitter!
Sprinkle Sprinkle sprinkle *shake* *shake* *shake*
So pretty. So Christmasey.
So *yummy*.

Yep - we made it too! and my kids had so much fun decorating it. It was our Baby Jesus Birthday Cake and I'm pretty sure it'll become a tradition for us. Thanks so much for the idea!

As all the others have expressed, thanks for the woodsy inspiration! The chocolate cake is my daughter's and my FAVORITE cake to make, and I had to make the woodsy version for my holiday brunch last week. Merry Christmas!

I am making this today... for Christmas day dessert! I am so excited. I am a baker and love, love the decorations. I did have to tweak what I got for decor, but I think it will be fabulous. Can't wait to present it after dinner! :)

Oh dear... if I linger here a moment longer, I just know I am going to spend the greater part of the day driving all over creation looking for those mushroom chocolates and the candy logs! But. It would be worth it... if I could find them... 'cause they really look adorable on your sweet cake!

Love the evergreens-out-of-ice-cream-cones idea. I may have to steal that one to landscape the gingerbread house I'm planning to make with the kids this week!
