After all, My Favorite Find is really all about you. I'll be posting the links to the interviews here, and you can click the links to these blogs to learn all about My Favorite Find.

Collecting and Other News

IMG_0483

I'm pretty into old cake tins. I think they're so interesting and can add so much to a simple cake. Here are a few I've picked up recently.

I always remember where these finds come from too, which makes each cake special because I'm baking and thinking about that good memory.

The top one came from Junebug, at their Mad Hatter Show.

Second one down was from a rummage sale in Sandpoint, Idaho this summer. $1!

And the last two I picked up this weekend at the Junk Salvation show in Oregon.

Oh yeah, that reminds me. This weekend I met up with my friend, Heather, in Portland and did some antiquing and collaborating. It's really nice to get out and see the shops and shows that exist outside of my everyday life.

In other news, My Favorite Find is getting closer and closer. The big day is no longer months away. Just days now. Just days! Have you signed up yet?

And the best news? The sun has been shining for several days and that makes me happy. In honor of that, I wore sandals today when I met Colin for lunch. It was 45 degrees, but I didn't care. Spring is in my heart.  :)

A Little Chat

Good morning!

It's about that time for me to hold another live chat.  It's an opportunity for me to answer questions you may have or just chat about whatever you'd like.

The best platform for me to interact with you live is Facebook. If you're on Facebook and want to give me a little shout-out as to a day and time you'd prefer to chat, I'd love to hear from you. (Or leave me a comment here).

Happy day,

Serena

This & That

I'm playing catch-up today on several things:

6a010534adb750970b010535e4aa35970b-400wi Lots of you have been asking for my peach pie and apple pie recipes.  You can find my Peach Pie recipe here, my Apple Pie recipe here my Mini Apple Pie recipe here, and my Pie Crust recipe here.

I've also been hearing lots of questions about my freezing food techniques, so I'll be posting about that next week.

If you've applied to be a vendor at The Farm Chicks Show and haven't received an email from me, please let me know.  It seems as though many of you haven't been receiving my emails.  If you were accepted as a vendor and haven't received your contract, please email me as well, as they were sent out a few weeks ago.

Happy weekend.

Good News! You Can Shop!

I was so sad when I had to close my shop and had to stop with online orders. I just couldn't keep up. And I've heard from so many of you, wanting to purchase my books and other cute things.

So I have good news to share! I now have an amazon shop where you can purchase my books, other books I love, and products too. And amazon is able to offer my books at such amazingly low prices, it will save you lots.

To go to the shop, you can click on the books icon on my sidebar here or from my website, by clicking on products.

Thank you so much for your support. I adore you.

If you're in the Spokane area this weekend, I hope you'll stop by the TAG SALE that my friends and I are holding.

The sale will be held Saturday, April 30th from 8am-3pm at the Five Mile Prairie Grange in Spokane. (3024 W. Strong Rd.)

P.S. I feel like I've abandoned you, sweet friends. It's as though the wheels on my life's train are about to pop off. I've been working so hard to get my family settled into our new home and have just begun getting World Headquarters set up.

And the show is coming up.

I do see light at the end of the tunnel and can't wait to be back here like I've always been.... sharing little bits and pieces of my life with you.

I just need to get it back on track....

Thank you *thank you* for being patient with me.

Love,

Serena

Martha Bakes

Martha-Bakes-about I had the pleasure of chatting with Martha this morning about her new show, Martha Bakes, on the Hallmark channel.

I find that a lot of the reader questions I'm asked are about baking and the basic techniques involved. So I was happy to learn that her new show will focus on many of the basic techniques using simple ingredients, accessible to the home cook, which will be so helpful for anyone looking to learn more about baking.

I've had the opportunity to preview a few of the episodes and am happy to report that they remind me a bit of her original television show, which I really miss. And she says all of the episodes are filmed in her home kitchen. I love that.

Martha Bakes will premiere Monday, January 31, on the Hallmark Channel.

The Farm Chicks Antiques Show in Spokane Washington

You may remember my talking to you about Serena Thompson here. She's an amazing talent who has among other things, developed a phenomenal event called The Farm Chicks Antiques Show that happens annually in Spokane, Washington. Yeah, the place that has lots of apples. :)

And on we go to 2011!

And just like that, 2011 is just around the corner!

How was your Christmas?  Ours was great.  We broke a record this year, with the boys waking us up at 5:00 a.m. to start the day.  They were a tad bit excited.

IMG_5123

The boys have another week of Christmas break, and I'll be enjoying that time with them, which means I'll be taking a few days off.

Happy 2011.  Here's to a sweet year!  I'll see you soon...

The Creative Connection Event

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is from women interested in starting their own business.  I'm happy to be speaking at The Creative Connection in Minneapolis, on just that very subject:  How to Launch a Business.  If you're looking for inspiration and useful information, The Creative Connection is the place to be.  I hope to see you there!

Catching Up

IMG_4654

Hi there, you.  I've been really swamped lately and barely able to keep up.  And how can I, really?  Especially when each of the boys drag home this much dirt in their shoes whenever we return from the new house.

IMG_1053

But don't worry.  We've been making several stops a week at Strawberry Hill for some of the freshest and healthful veggies around.

IMG_1054

And a little eye candy too.

IMG_1026

Our farmhouse is beginning to take shape.  And we all love Craig.  He's doing such a great job.

IMG_1034 And the store?

Oy vey!

It's coming along, but not without a fight.  Turns out, it's not easily tamed.

But it will be looking beautiful soon. Or else.

Talk soon,

me

Homemade

_MG_5371

One of the treats our family looks forward to in the summer is homemade ice cream.  Nothing beats such a refreshing treat on a hot summer's day.  You can find my ice cream story in the June issue of Country Living Magazine.

P.S. The picture of my son, Lucas, and all of the photographs from the story are by Ray Kachatorian.

This Weekend

This weekend is gearing up to be super busy.  I'm trying to figure out how I can squeeze in a visit to my friend's antiques show, (not to be confused with a Seattle area show with the same name) just outside of Spokane.  I've known Holly and Jennifer for several years now and love their style.

But I'm working around a photo shoot, baseball games, and The Little House on the Prairie with my nieces, Chloe and Annie (we call them Laura and Mary).

I'm crossing my fingers that I can make it, but if I don't, can you please make sure to go and have some fun for me?

Happy weekend!

Meet Our New Home

Here she is.  And although she looks so cold on paper, we know she'll be a warm and happy home for us.

IMG_4263

IMG_4264

In a couple of weeks, we should have the bids back from the three builders we've selected and then we'll make the hard choice on who we'll be working with.  There are some wonderful builders to choose from.  I can't wait to get started.  And I can't wait to relocate Farm Chicks World Headquarters.  I have big plans for my new space...

Living With a Lockbox

IMG_2116

The day my business made a significant change, Colin came home and announced he had reached an agreement on our dream property.  It was the best news I'd heard in a long time.  But it meant big changes were in store for us.  It meant we'd be selling our house and building anew.  And just like that, the whirlwind began.  And now, our home is officially for sale and we're living with a lockbox on the door, which will take some getting used to.  But we're also living with the dream of our new home, in our favorite place on earth.  I look forward to sharing my journey...

P.S.  That darling vintage letter T (for Thompson) that you see on my front porch?  It came from my friend (and Farm Chicks Show vendor), Lisa Souers. You can find her amazing products on her website:http://lisasouersdesigns.com/ or read more about her on her blog:http://www.lisasouers.typepad.com/
