Luckily I was alone when I pulled into the driveway this afternoon to discover a big box on my front porch from our publisher. I screamed. And screamed again. And then called Teri to get in her car and drive directly to my house. A Do Not Pass GO urgent type of call. And she did. And we opened the box and screamed some more. And then I took her picture - right there at the door. The galleys of our book are here!!
Last week, our Editorial Director, Marisa (whom we adore), had emailed to tell us that she had galleys made up. What are galleys we asked? (Because just like with everything else in this raz-ma-taz fancy publishing world, we had no idea). Here was Marisa's description: "I don’t want you to
be surprised when you open the box - these are “bare-bones” copies made for
advance publicity. The cover is paperback and has no printed special effects,
the interior is cropped to fit the format and is in black and white."
Honestly, we imagined the galleys would be stacks of black and white copies that were binder-clipped together. Turns out galleys are amazing. We love them. We can't believe it.
And there's something else we can't believe. We're shooting our second book next week. Second book! We've got lots to share about that......soon!
