Finding a cute way to store your knives can be tricky. This is the perfect
solution. I started out with a magnetic knife rack from Ikea and covered
it in a cute calico fabric. Now, the rack is just as darling as the knives!
1.) Iron fabric, and lay out wrong side up.
2.) Place knife rack face down on fabric.
3.) Cut fabric all around rack, about 3/4 of an inch larger than
rack, or wide enough to be able to pull fabric over the inside lip of the rack.
4.) Pull fabric over the inside lip of the rack, glueing into place
as you go.
5.) Mount according to package instructions.
Materials needed:
Ikea
(Asker) magnetic knife rack
Material of your choice
Hot glue gun
Sources:
The knives were purchased at William Sonoma and TJ Maxx
That is really a neat idea! Thanks for sharing! Karen

Oh gosh, I forgot to mention where the knives came from! I found one of the small ones at William Sonoma and then discovered that TJ Maxx carried the same brand and in bigger sizes and more colors. And cheaper too! They are really great knives.

How cheerful. I love it. We left our Ikea Asker magnetic knife rack on the kitchen wall last time we moved. Looks like a good excuse to drive to Seattle ...

I love the idea but it seems that each time you pull off a knife, the fabric would stretch slightly. Have you had that problem? Contact paper......would that work?
Posted by: Katz | September 01, 2009 at 07:36 AM
Hi Katz,
The fabric doesn't stretch at all. There is a piece on the back of the knife rack that slips in and pulls everything really tight. It works like a dream!
Take care,
Serena :)

I have that same santoku knife! This is such a great idea for storage since the Pure Komachi collection is so cute. I have the pink santoku and a teal utility knife too.
The 2 big knives I bought years & years ago at The Sharper Image, but the teal knife was found at Target. Personally, I only like the first-run colors, I find most of the second-run colors ugly or gaudy. I've seen these knives on many cooking websites, the discount store Tuesday Morning, Amazon, and Ebay, of course. Target has the best price points by far--the tomato & cheese knife is only $7.99.

I always wanted a magnetic knife rack but was worried that the magnet meant be to strong and I would cut myself. Am I just being paranoid?

My husband is worried that the cloth would wear out quickly. How is your cloth holding up? What type of cloth did you use?
