Mr. Blue Sky (aka Lukie) went to make some cookies last night and was a little surprised at the state of the recipe box. "How do you find anything in here?", he asked. It needed a fix-up. But I was tired of the boring little dividers and thought that I should make new ones that were pretty and colorful. Because color is happy, just like Mr. Blue Sky.
And I've started writing out all of my recipes on my collection of recipe cards.
I made the new dividers from scrapbook paper, simply by tracing the old dividers and cutting out. Isn't scrapbook paper one of the best creations ever?!
I'll be hand-printing the different section titles when I'm all done with this project. And I'll be sure to use a permanent marker on the dividers and recipe cards so the ink doesn't smear if it gets wet. My favorite pen for this is a Sharpie, in fine point. And they come in zillions of colors.

The recipe box is from Martha Stewart's Macys collection.

Love the re-do, especially with that robin egg blue box! I make the same Thanksgiving side dish, and it even wins over the sweet potato haters. ;)
And yes, patterned paper is the best. Right after I read your post, I went over to the Write. Click. Scrapbook site and saw some rolling pins covered in patterned paper and then coated in shellac so that they can be used. So cute! There is something special about recipes handwritten on recipe cards (rather than printed off the Internet!). When I got married, my mother-in-law gave me a set of recipe cards with all of their family recipes from their grandmothers hand written on it. She doesn't know this, but I really treasure this gift. Now I need a lovely recipe box, like yours! Thanks for the beautiful idea!

I love it! I drove right to Macy's after work and bought the red recipe box for one of my friends. She is getting married in a few weeks and I know she'll love it! Thanks for the inspiration.

My recipe box is in a terrible state of disarray. Besides that, it isn't even a real recipe box. I love your idea!!

so nice!

I just love that box, and all the color you have in it! Makes me want to start my favorites collection all over again! MMMmm, that recipe looks like something similar a friend brought to church potluck. So yummy we had a hard time figuring out if it should go on the dinner table or the dessert table! Now I need to try this one! Thanks so much, Karen

Every cook needs a recipe card box
in their kitchen to hold their secret family recipes that have been passed down through the generations.
