Weekends on the Bluff during apple harvest are C-R-A-Z-Y ! People come from miles around because it's really the best place to be for the the most amazing apples in the world and pumpkins, and squash... and... and... and... it's just really special.
And there are lots of things that each orchard has that makes their place wonderful. At Harvest House, it's gold. Okay, it's not really gold but it sure tastes like it to me!
Pumpkin Donuts. Oh dear. They're so dreamy. And remember how I said the weekends can get a wee bit crazy with say, oh... maybe a kajillion visitors? I bet half of them are in line waiting for their gold. In fact, people go so crazy for them, there's a limit of one dozen per person. One dozen you say? Think that's too many? Well then, you've never tasted one. (or a dozen) .....
But I have a secret. We can sneak in right at opening, before there's any line...
oh-h-h-h-h..... here goes the first batch now...
And swiiishhh into a bath of cinnamon and sugar. The air is dancing with pumpkin and spices swirling all around.
It's the first gold of the day.
And they're just for me. Er, ahem... I mean, just for the boys.
We'll take them to our farmhouse where we can sit on the front porch and listen to the bluegrass from Harvest House, just getting started for the day, wafting through the air and across the fields, and into our happy home.
It's another golden day.

Oh, how I wish I could have been there. We don't have fall harvest events like that here in Georgia. I would love to experience an apple harvest and a true pumpkin patch.

Here in Va, I absolutely can't wait until we go to Charlottesville for apple picking. Since my son is almost 3 now we think it is time he can handle the trip.He LOVES apples so we wonder how many will make it to the weigh in. Our farm makes apple cider donuts - DEEELISHIOUS! I had to giggle at your post because I am not necessarily a sweets person , but donuts are my weakness, and Pumkin is my absolute favorite! So much so that 3 years ago when I was pregnant, lets say the Krispy Kreme here knew my name during the month of October! So I could identify with your joy! So glad you are having a great time. Much Love.

love it! this is very similar to fall in New England. Lines out the door on the weekends for the perfect caramel apple, a jug of cider and of course, cider donuts. Hot from the fryer...oh boy! They go down soo easy.

Headed to Green Bluff on Wednesday. Our school heads to Walter's every year. I can't wait for the train ride through the orchard and watching the little ones pick an apple from the tree. I love Green Bluff all year, but Fall is my absolute favorite up there.

I've tasted that gold and I'd say it's worth the wait in line...hearing the music at your farmhouse? That sounds just lovely!

Oh, those donuts look amazing - like the ones at the WV State Fair. We're going to the Pumpkin Festival this weekend & I cannot wait. Donuts, apple cider, caramel apples, maybe some pumpkin fudge...oh my goodness.

Do you think those pumpkin doughnuts ship well? Otherwise I need to ship myself to the Bluff so I can shove my face with them.
I REALLY like pumpkin doughnuts...

Tells you how loud the music is if you hear it from your large front porch. Some of the best donuts are from High Country Orchard- those are yummy-
