I'm back with my computer and it suddenly feels as if I have all my limbs again.
So much has happened in the last week...
We went away to Seattle, to what feels like our home away from home, and played around a bit. We were waiting for the final signed paperwork on our house sale, but it never came. So, the fun was a good distraction. Until our truck was broken into and vandalized. So we returned home early.
We started packing, despite no final paperwork, as we knew once the papers were signed, we'd have only a few days to move. We found a rental and because of full schedules, had to start moving into the night. I baked the last treat in our happy home, Pumpkin Bars, which will now always remind me of the Happy Home's last treat.
After we were all packed up and moved out, I cleaned up, one last time. And as I stepped out the front door, an enormous flock of birds appeared out of nowhere and swirled over the house in a way that was symbolic to me. And yes, I cried. Again.
And later, Colin played this song for me and told me that it was the song that played on the radio when he pulled away from the house for the last time.
And then, I said good-bye to my prairie and all of her winter wheat.

Yes you can handle the seasons Serena! What a bittersweet time in your life, letting go of a home filled with warm memories and preparing to fill another with new memories. Hope the sailing is smooth from here on out. I'm sure your new kitchen will be fabulous. What will you bake for your first time in your new kitchen?

I have a favorite George Eliot quote, my mantra so to speak because at 52 I am always "re-inventing" myself as an artist and a person. I think it applies to other things in life as well.
"It's never too late to be what you might have been"
Enjoy the changes....they bring good things :)

Moving from a home you love is always a difficult and emotional thing! Life is beautiful in all that it allows us to feel.

Oh Serena, when I began reading this post tears came to my eyes, how would I feel about leaving this home I 've known for 27 years? Such a beautiful tribute to the home and loved the flocking birds as well. I can only imagine your feelings and how hard it must have been, but I admire you for taking the time to bake their one last time. I wish you the utmost joy in your new home, full of wonderful new moments and memories! God bless to you and your family and you begin a new home together! Lori

Ah yes...I just recently went through the same thing. We just closed on our house and we finally moved up to Sandpoint a few weekends ago. When I cleaned the empty house one last time and walked through the rooms, I couldn't help but sob from all the memories our family made in our very first home. We are also in a temporary rental until we buy a house here, so we'll have to move again soon! Moving is difficult, but an adventure as well. I hope everything goes well for you and I can't wait to see your finished house :)
