You know that part in the Little Mermaid when Ursula is making Ariel sing? Ahhh ahhh ahhhhhh.... ahhh ahhh ahhhhhh.... ahhh ahhh AHHHHHHH... and so on... ? Whenever something good happens, I sing that song, as if I'm Ariel. (Weird, I know because that's not even a happy part....) Anyway...
Colin asked me if I wanted to go up and see the house tonight and I was reluctant. To be honest, I've been trying to avoid it. It's actually becoming really painful for me to visit because I so DESPERATELY want to be home and to feel settled.
He told me that he thought the cabinets may be in. But I didn't believe him. Actually, I didn't want to believe him because I didn't want to be let down if they weren't. And I didn't even have a reason for doubting because everything has really stayed right on schedule.
And let me tell you, my heart just about fell out of my chest and Ariel began to sing in my head when I saw this:
Cabinets!
And my sink. Remember her? She's all resurfaced and ready to be installed. I love love love this sink.
The cabinets and shelving in the laundry room are all done. The dining room built-ins are in progress and the other rooms that are awaiting cabinetry and built-ins are being tended to as well.
So now, I've been singing like the Little Mermaid all night.
And everyone's getting a little sick of me.
Ahhh ahhh ahhh.... ahhh ahhh ahhhhhh ....

How exciting, Serena!
I'm very impressed with your progress. It was a big surprise to us when we moved to Montucky to see how construction works here. Fire season? They all leave to work for the Forest Service. Hunting season? They're gone. Sub-zero temps? Well...you get the picture. You learn to go with the flow and take what you can get!
You're at the point now where everything will just be icing on the cake - beautiful and fun! Do you have a hopeful move in date?

I'm known to sing Le Poissons while I'm cooking, complete with butt waggling.

Saying you sing that song in your head is such a great way to say it! I have built many homes and just finished my first remodel home a couple years ago and you hit it right on the spot with that song coming into your head when you have those WOW moments! That is awesome. I'm thinking i'll be using that song from here on out for the same thing. Thanks for putting a cute song to what is really going on in my head in those times! :) Your kitchen is darling. My last remodeled kitchen is white and has similar cabinets. I'm excited to see the blacksplash go up. (One of my favorite parts!!) I was going tradition white subways and then got sidetracked with tiny tiny subways. When they installed them, I was waiting for the white grout to go in, I stood back and thought the look of the gray was fun. So, out went the white and in came gray grout and now i am a little more contemporary than traditional. Either way, it is a fun place for my boys and all their friends to hang out and eat crepes till the weeeee hours of the night! Our family favorite!!!
Coming to the antique show this year for the first time! I can hardly wait. I'm pretty sure it somehow got moved up to spring because i was so bummed that i missed it last fall. Thanks! I'm so excited!!

I am so new to the blogging world but i'm trying my hardest because i've been so inspired by your blog. I just left a comment and gave you the wrong blog site. Then i remembered I just took a couple pictures of my kitchen and thought you might want to check them out for fun. If you're like me, i love getting all sorts of ideas from fun white family kitchens. I'll try to put some more pics on. Not that you need any help because i know you're so talented. Just for fun if you want to check them out. :) cordandamy.blogspot.com

For June Deese above: I have a very large farmhouse sink in excellent condition for sale. It is double the size of Serena's with legs, two drainboards--a show stopper.
Love this kitchen. It will get finished (I speak from a two year renovation experience)

I am so excited for you!! I think your kitchen will now become my dream kitchen -- it is perfect in every way. Also, that part of the Little Mermaid I used to always fast forward through it because it scared my kids --- now I will only think happy kitchen thoughts when I see it :) Congratulations!

that's funny, I sing that part in an obnoxious opera voice to my girls and they yell, stop mom!!!

I'm in love with your kitchen! It looks great, congratulations! I (and the rest of the world) can't wait to see the final product (though we love the updates you give us, too). Did you design your house plan, or did you modify or use an existing one?
Everything looks fabulous, and I love the trim you chose for your windows!

Oh the sink, I have one that looks EXACTLY like it in my garage just waiting for the day it can come inside. I rescued it from the home I grew up in before they took it down. Everyone thought I was CRAZY!!! But I dream about the day I get to look at it daily and relive the thoughts of childhood growing up on our summer ranch in a house with no power and running water!! I can't wait to see yours in your beautiful new kitchen!!! How lucky are you!!!

Funny that you bring up that song from the Little Mermaid, in our family, it's a HUGE joke! When my niece was about 4 or 5, she would sit on the potty and sing that part as loud as she could (very old house on Corbin Park). The accoustics were amazing! Thanks for making me smile! The house is looking amazing!

I love the Little Mermaid so I feel your happiness!
Also, allow me to quote from Willy Wonka, "You know what happened to the boy who got everything he ever wanted?" "What?" "He lived happily ever after!" I love it!!! Thank you for sharing your life with us in this way. It's so fun to live vicariously sometimes. :)

Oh my.....such a gorgeous kitchen. You didn't mention who your cabinet maker was. Was it 'Affordable Custom Cabinets'? They are amazing.....my husband who is a contractor here in Gig Harbor uses them.(He used to build custom homes in Pullman)He can't find anything here that is the quality and price that they always provide. What color are the cabinets-white? Is the wood trim the same color? It looks beautiful!
Posted by: Kathleen | February 17, 2011 at 04:35 AM
I know how EXACTLY how you feel. We are building a new home as well and sometimes things don't move fast enough for me and I just want to move in and be settled. And sometimes it's easier to stay away for a few days so it feels like progress has been made while you were gone... Your home will be so beautiful!

Hi there,
The cabinets and trim are Zurich White from Sherwin Williams.
