So, the flooring is coming along nicely. The guys are trucking along and I love how it's looking.
These are 1/8" grout lines. Once the tiles are all installed, they'll come through and grout everything. I really appreciate their lines. Really straight and top notch. We couldn't really ask for anything more.
Well, to move in would be nice.
Soon.

Love the flooring! I put something similar in our master bath. Just make sure you choose dark enough grout. I ended up having to use a grout stain after my original choice (which I thought was a perfect match) and a tiny paintbrush to fix it...not a lot of fun! Do a little sample board first. Love the house.

{breathing into a paper bag}
That's THE best flooring I've seen in a long long time.
Your taste- fabulous.

Wow, that looks great! And looks just like real wood too!

This is looking beautiful! What exactly was the problem with doing real hardwood over radiant floor heat? We were wanting to do that in the future.

Your flooring is stunning! I think that this would be easier to maintain than wood also. I imagine that you are beyond excited!

Audrey,
Our builder warned us about using wood over the radiant heat. He's had several installs go really well, but a few have not and he nor the flooring experts can say why. That's just what has happened. We have a really dry climate here in the Spokane area, so the experts told us we'd need to have a humidifier system and that's not something I was interested in... another system to be maintained and worried about. They do make some wood floors that are engineered to go over radiant heat, but again, we heard some feedback from the experts that sometimes things don't go well with that either.
In the end, we just didn't want to risk putting in a huge amount of wood with the risk of it going bad on us. It was too risky and too much to worry about. We just want to be comfortable. :)
So, we went with tile.
I will say that my in-laws who live on the east coast, in a home on the beach, have wood floors over radiant and it has been dreamy for them. Maybe the humid climate makes a difference. ?
Good luck,
Serena

I'm planning on putting tile like this in my bathrooms soon. Can you tell me which color you chose? I live in Seattle and am afraid to go too dark but yours look perfect!

I know you said it was tile yesterday, but I seriously looked at it and thought "nice wood floor"

I LOVE this floor! I have wanted to put woods in our entire 1st floor, but would have to put in an entire new subfloor. Slate was always an option, but tile that looks like wood may be good solution, too.
Curious, is the price comparable?

It's looking wonderful! I see so many elements you've done in your house that we did in ours. Good taste!!! We've sold ours and hope to build again some day. Hope you are moving in soon!

These look great! Not to dark, not to light. Just think you will never have to refinish wood floors! I bet they will look this good 10 years from now.

Wow! I can't believe that's not wood! Looks pretty darn awesome! :D

I've wanted to use wooden floorings for my front porch, but I'm just worried about choosing the type of wood that would not be attacked by termites. Do you have any idea where I can find quality wood floorings?

I can just picture mornings in your new kitchen - sun streaming in, coffee brewing, the house still quiet, and birds starting their day. It will be bliss my friend - it really will~

Thank you, Kim. I'm trying to visualize that right now. :) xoxo

Thanks for the feedback, Serena! I too live in the area (Rathdrum, ID), so I know all about the climate! I will definitely be considering this when we install radiant floor heat.

That's a great investment and I am sure this will last for a long time with proper cleaning and maintenance. Furniture pads can also be a great help to prevent scratches and offer you easy manipulation of where to move them.

How are you enjoying your wood look tile? I'm considering this for my great room.

Also...could you tell me the brand, color and grout color you used. I really like this.

Ouch! I cannot stand to see if that is my flooring. I am creating accident for my kids in the house who are going around the house playing all the time.

Susan, did you find out the brand, color and grout used? I'd love to know. We are planning on putting wood look tikes in our home but can't decide on the color! Lots of choices. Thanks.
