When I designed our dining room built-in, I wanted to make sure I'd have a spot to store all of my extra glassware.
I love how something so simple can add such sparkle to a room.
My favorite source for glassware is estate sales. It seems that most people just pass them by. Most of the sets I find are quite large, which is a must for me. I usually won't buy any sets with less than 12 glasses. Although I couldn't pass up this set of 8 tiny juice glasses (shown at left) recently.
The set was mine for $1. And I do really like how old-fashioned juice glasses are tiny. I think juice is more special sipped, not guzzled.
I still have several shelves to fill and can't wait to see what I'll find next.
P.S. Have you ever seen Matthew Mead's Entertaining Simple book? I love his use of glassware throughout.
Post Edit: I ordered our table from Antico. It works really well for our big family because it seats 12. I love that their furniture is made from reclaimed and sustainably harvested wood. The chairs are from Cost Plus World Market.

One reason the old glass is so sparkly, is because they seldom saw the inside of a dishwasher, if ever. My husband's aunt & uncle always washed their dishes by hand and after 60 years the dishes still sparkled.

I love small juice glasses too!

Well, Jenn addressed the topic of my question: Is it possible to get sparkly glassware out of the dishwasher? Serena, do you hand-wash them all?
I am in the middle of a multi-year battle with my dishwasher. We have unsuccessfully tried MANY different products and even bought an expensive new dishwasher in pursuit of clear glassware. I'd love to hear tips!

Helen asked about getting clear glassware from the dishwasher. I had the same problem. I have an expensive dishwasher that does a great job, but my glasses were cloudy. We have hard water. Also, I learned that after the phosphates were removed from dishwasher soap, it doesn't clean as well. Anyway, I buy a product called Lemi Shine. It is wonderful! If you have vintage glassware with painting on it, handwash because it takes the paint off.

WHERE did you get that table!?!?! And the chairs, of course. We've been looking FOREVER for a nice big farmhouse table and can't find anything we like, but I like the looks of that one! Great pick!

I love old glassware too. Have my grandmothers and great aunt's glassware. Along the way my glasses have grown and grown. I never tire looking at them in the glass cabinets...

You lucky lucky girl --- I would KILL for that much storage space for glasses & dishware. It's a dream this girl will have to keep dreaming.
BTW --- would LOVE to see a whole photo tour of your farm. I drool at every little snippet we get. It looks like a slice of heaven.
