The first business I ever had was selling mud pies to people who would venture up the three mile long dirt road to our cabin in the woods to see my parents. I was in elementary school and I still remember my exhilaration once I'd made $20 from those pies.
In fact, with that success, an entrepreneur was born.
And there's really something about entrepreneurs isn't there?
All chasing a dream.
A big idea.
The next big thing.
Or the next little thing.... that maybe does nothing more than to make us happy.
Big or small...
dreams are dreams and that's what being an entrepreneur is all about. Dreaming, doing, following through. For you.
You. That's really what I'm trying to get around to today.
And here's why. I want to help shine a light on other entrepreneurs. Because we can all use a boost sometime.
It's your time to shine.

I design quilts and wool embroideries for Leisure Arts. I stopped making my own patterns and selling them because I got tired of trying to find a distributor. I use to design cross stitch and had a good distributor but the quilt world is a tough market to break into. My first book comes out in Sept or Oct and I am thrilled. I love your blog, it inspires me!

I too have been making and selling things since I was really young. There is something very fulfilling about it. I've never quite put my finger on what it is that I love about it, I just know I have to keep creating. From designing items to sell (right now I'm into everything 'paper', cards, tags, journals) to doing shows or being in a shop, I enjoy everything about it. I have a space in a vintage style shop (www.roomwithapast.com) that is open one weekend a month. Each month I re-design my space with seasonal goods that I've made and shopped for. I make lovely things to sell, and have a place to sell them. I couldn't be happier!

I am going to work on this.......even if I wouldn't be chosen, it is good to sit back and take a look at what your story looks like from where you started. Took my laptop with me as my sweet man had to go feed the cows. Started writing.......got excited! I will email it in! I am a blessed lady! Seems like you are also!

You are to kind. Some of us, (ahhhh me) have a business that turns out having a life of it's own. But as a creative person we still need to express ourselves. So in a way, I am starting over....to do what most artist desire...to express ourselves in a form outside of ourselves. I might just take you up on that.

Hi Serena,
I sent my little, organic, flower business decription from Local Harvest to you in an e-mail but did not include the whys of starting it in the first place.
The flower industry is an extremely toxic one, to say the least with the majority of them coming from 3rd world countries like Ecuador with little or no regard for their workers or environment, then flown many miles away...also not very environmentally friendly. I am an avid, organic gardener...and breast cancer survivor...and wanted to eliminate as many chemicals in my home and garden as possible. I also wanted to offer a healthier alternative to other folks that love flowers as much as I do...so I "planted"...Christina's Bouquets! :)
